DVIS’s annual Mutt Strut is a dog walk and pet costume contest that brings awareness and supplies to our kennel. DVIS was the first domestic violence shelter in Oklahoma to include a kennel for dogs and cats, keeping survivors and their beloved pets TOGETHER.
A majority of pet owners entering a domestic violence shelter report that their abuser had threatened, injured, or killed family pets, and many DV survivors feel hesitant to escape because they are concerned about what will happen to their pets when they leave. At DVIS, that is not an issue, and participating in Mutt Strut is a fun way to support!
Dress your dog in a favorite costume to compete for the crown of King or Queen of Mutt Strut! Or, if you dress up too, you could win best owner/dog duo!
Admission is an in-kind donation to the kennel. We can always use dog or cat food, treats, toys, flea and tick shampoo, cat litter, harnesses, collars, leashes, stainless steel bowls, grooming tools, beds, and carrying crates.
